Beginning September 21, 2009, adults seeking entry-level job skills will fill the high-tech classrooms at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC). The twice-a-week training workshops will occur over a ten-week period. A choice of 13 courses will be taught by industry-certified instructors on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4-7 p.m. Class sizes will be limited to 15 adults to ensure personal attention, safety, and hands-on learning. Auto Body Refinishing, Auto Service, Basic MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding, Basic TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Business Professional/Finance Training, HVAC, Floral Design, Level One CNC Machining Operations, Machine Tool, PC Maintenance/Residential Cabling, Public Safety/Protective Services, and Restaurant, Catering, and Culinary Management courses are being offered. Class tuition for each course is $295.00 and some courses may require additional material or textbook fees. XUHONG SHANG Xuhong Shang, a Shanghai-born painter, photographer, and international artist will create a new installation of his work for the Muskegon Museum of Art. Shang has exhibited his work both internationally and throughout this country and is known for his visually lush conceptual and abstract paintings, installations that explore many of the paradoxes of representation and reality, and for his photography that focuses on the edge between the reality and the visual, metaphor and meaning, and which heightens the relationship between the viewer and the art form. The Singing Christmas Tree has become an annual tradition for many families in the West Michigan area and beyond. To commemorate this event, the choir has some truly special events planned. First, choir director Shawn Lawton spent the summer reconnecting with choir alumni in an effort to determine favorite songs sung in the Tree. From those contacts, a list of the most popular (with the singers) songs was created. This year’s singers are going to revive many of the most popular choices. The Mona Shores Choir Association is creating a 25th Anniversary commemorative holiday ornament, which will be on sale at the event. They are also going to be sponsoring a canned food drive, in which audience members can bring canned goods to the event in exchange for free Mona Shores Choir past Singing Christmas Tree compact discs. The tree will receive a fresh new look with silver accents highlighting our silver anniversary. The lighting for the tree will be enhanced this year as well, under the guidance of lighting designer Bill Bodell.

MAC Tonight A new promotion this season is MAC Tonight. On December 13th, bring a box of macaroni & cheese to the game. Use it to make some noise during the game as you cheer on your Lumberjacks. Drop your mac & cheese off on your way over to the Muskegon Athletic Club for a post-game party with the team.
