Xuhong Shang, a Shanghai-born painter, photographer, and international artist will create a new installation of his work for the Muskegon Museum of Art. Shang has exhibited his work both internationally and throughout this country and is known for his visually lush conceptual and abstract paintings, installations that explore many of the paradoxes of representation and reality, and for his photography that focuses on the edge between the reality and the visual, metaphor and meaning, and which heightens the relationship between the viewer and the art form. The Nunsense Christmas musical is presented as the first TV special taped in the Cable Access Studio built by the Reverend Mother in the basement of Mount Saint Helen’s Covent with part of the prize money won by Sister Mary Paul (Amnesia). The show is the annual Christmas program put on by the students of Mount Saint Helen’s School, and this year’s highlight will be an original ballet based on the “Nutcracker” featuring Sister Mary Leo as the Sugar Plum Fairy. In the usual Nunsense highjinks, many problems and comedic situations arise, and we are treated to an evening filled with seasonal songs, laughter, and even some audience participation!

The Mona Shores Choir Association proudly presents “The Mona Shores Singing Christmas Tree; celebrating 25 years of holiday tradition”! The Singing Christmas Tree has become an annual tradition for many families in the West Michigan area and beyond. To commemorate this event, the choir has some truly special events planned. First, choir director Shawn Lawton spent the summer reconnecting with choir alumni in an effort to determine favorite songs sung in the Tree. From those contacts, a list of the most popular (with the singers) songs was created. This year’s singers are going to revive many of the most popular choices. The Mona Shores Choir Association is creating a 25th Anniversary commemorative holiday ornament, which will be on sale at the event. They are also going to be sponsoring a canned food drive, in which audience members can bring canned goods to the event in exchange for free Mona Shores Choir past Singing Christmas Tree compact discs. The tree will receive a fresh new look with silver accents highlighting our silver anniversary. The lighting for the tree will be enhanced this year as well, under the guidance of lighting designer Bill Bodell.
