Event Description: Horses have been used throughout history for such purposes as transportation, labor, entertainment, sport, and war; serving a wide variety of roles in the development of civilizations. For artists, the animal has been used as subject and symbol, helping to detail contemporary life or serving to indicate status and wealth. This exhibition draws from the permanent collection of the Muskegon Museum of Art to portray the roles horses play in human experience. The beauty and strength of the horse is revealed through prints, sculptures, watercolors, and paintings spanning several centuries, from Albrecht Dürer in the 1500s to contemporary artists Françoise Gilot, Jon McDonald, and Jordi Pedrola. Underwritten by the VanKampen Boyer Molinari Foundation.

Directions:
Downtown Muskegon, between 2nd & 3rd St., next to Hackley Public Library.
